This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you visit our website and use our services, including browsing Minyan listings, creating Minyan events, RSVPing to events, and communicating with other community members.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide Directly

When you register an account or use our Service, we collect:

  • Account information: full name, email address, username
  • Phone number (used for SMS verification and optional account security)
  • Profile information: location (city/state), gender, biography/about me text
  • User-generated content: Minyan posts you create, including event name, date, time, location, address, and description
  • Attendance and RSVP data: events you confirm attendance for or add to favorites
  • Communications: messages or reports you send through the platform
  • Payment information: if you make donations or pay dues, payment details are processed by our payment processor (Stripe). We do not store full card numbers on our servers.
  • Photos and media: profile photos or images you upload to event listings

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

When you use the Service, we automatically collect:

  • Log data: IP address, browser type, pages visited, time and date of visits, referring URLs
  • Device information: hardware model, operating system, unique device identifiers
  • Cookies and tracking technologies: session cookies for login persistence, functional cookies for preferences
  • Usage data: features used, events viewed, search terms entered

1.3 Information From Third Parties

We may receive information from:

  • Twilio: phone number validation data including line type (mobile, landline, VoIP) for fraud prevention
  • SendGrid: email delivery confirmation and bounce data
  • Stripe: payment confirmation and fraud signals (no full card data)
  • Analytics providers: aggregated usage statistics

2. Minyan Listings and Public Information

2.1 What Is Publicly Visible

When you create a Minyan listing, the following information is displayed to all users of the Service and may be indexed by search engines:

  • Event name and description
  • Date, time, and schedule (recurring or one-time)
  • Location name and address (synagogue, venue, or other location)
  • Organizer username or display name
  • Attendance count (but not individual attendee names, unless you opt in)
  • Photos associated with the listing

2.2 Venue and Location Data

Addresses and locations of synagogues, venues, and other places of worship submitted to the platform are stored in our database and displayed publicly. If you submit a venue address, you represent that you have the right to publish that information and that the address is accurate.

2.3 Your Control Over Event Data

You may edit or delete Minyan listings you create at any time from your account dashboard. Deletion removes the listing from public view, though aggregated analytics data may be retained.

3. SMS Communications and Twilio

MobileGabbai uses Twilio, Inc. as our SMS service provider. By providing your phone number and completing phone verification, you agree to the following:

3.1 SMS Verification

We send a one-time passcode (OTP) via SMS to verify your phone number during registration. This is a mandatory step to create an account. Standard message and data rates from your mobile carrier may apply.

3.2 SMS Notifications (Optional)

With your separate consent, we may send SMS notifications for:

  • Minyan alerts for events near your location
  • RSVP confirmations and reminders
  • Account security alerts

You may opt out of SMS notifications at any time by replying STOP to any message or updating your notification preferences in your account settings.

3.3 Message Frequency and Costs

Message frequency varies based on your activity and notification settings. Standard SMS and data rates charged by your mobile carrier apply. We do not charge separately for SMS messages, but your carrier may.

3.4 Phone Number Restrictions

We use Twilio Lookup to validate phone numbers during registration. We do not accept VoIP numbers, virtual numbers, or internet-based phone numbers (such as Google Voice, Skype, TextNow, MagicJack, or similar services). Only physical mobile or landline numbers are accepted. This restriction exists to protect the community from fraudulent accounts.

3.5 Twilio Data Practices

Your phone number and SMS message content may be processed by Twilio, Inc. in accordance with Twilio’s Privacy Policy (available at twilio.com/legal/privacy). We do not sell your phone number to third parties. Phone numbers are used solely for account verification and, with your consent, service notifications.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • Account creation and authentication
  • Identity and phone number verification to prevent fraud
  • Displaying your profile, listings, and content to other users
  • Sending transactional messages (verification codes, booking confirmations)
  • Sending service notifications (with your consent)
  • Processing payments and donations
  • Improving the Service through analytics
  • Enforcing our Terms of Service and community guidelines
  • Responding to your support requests
  • Complying with legal obligations
  • Detecting and preventing fraud, abuse, and safety threats

5. How We Share Your Information

5.2 Public Listings

Information you include in Minyan listings (event details, addresses, times, photos) is visible to all users and the general public. Do not include private information in public listings.

5.3 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or others.

5.4 Business Transfers

If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will provide notice before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

6. Data Retention

  • Account data: retained while your account is active and for 90 days after deletion
  • Phone numbers: retained for the duration of your account for security logging
  • SMS logs: message metadata retained for 90 days; content not retained after delivery
  • Payment records: retained for 7 years as required by financial regulations
  • Public listings: retained until deleted by you or us; archived copies may persist for up to 30 days
  • Photos and media: retained until you delete them or close your account

7. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including:

  • HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
  • Hashed storage of OTP codes (codes are never stored in plain text)
  • Password hashing using WordPress standard bcrypt
  • Phone number verification to prevent fake account creation
  • Rate limiting on authentication and verification endpoints

No method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights and Choices

8.1 Account Information

You may access, update, or delete your account information at any time through your account settings. You may also request deletion of your account by contacting us at hello@MobileGabbai.com.

8.2 SMS Opt-Out

Reply STOP to any SMS message to opt out of SMS notifications. You will still receive verification codes if you attempt to log in.

8.3 Cookies

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect functionality such as staying logged in.

8.4 California Residents (CCPA)

8.5 Do Not Track

We do not currently respond to Do Not Track signals, as no industry standard exists for such signals.

9. Children’s Privacy

MobileGabbai is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, contact us at hello@MobileGabbai.com and we will promptly delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the effective date. For significant changes, we may also send an email notification or display a notice on the Service.
